Islamic education aims to develop students’ intelligence potential holistically and gradually, in accordance with their stages of development. These potentials include intellectual intelligence (IQ), emotional intelligence (EQ), and spiritual intelligence (SQ), all of which are essential components in shaping a whole human personality. In the Islamic perspective, the intellectual faculty (ʿaql) functions to comprehend natural laws and empirical realities, while the qalb encompasses both remembrance (dhikr) and emotional capacities to internalize spiritual values. The ruh (spirit), as a divine endowment from Allah, guides the body and soul toward spiritual perfection. These three dimensions originate from the human fitrah, which constitutes the essential identity of a person. As individuals grow and interact with their social and cultural environments, their IQ, EQ, and SQ develop dynamically. Therefore, the goal of Islamic education is not only to nurture physical and spiritual aspects but also to preserve and enhance the intellect of learners. Achieving this goal requires an integration of philosophical, scientific, socio-cultural, functional, and emotional approaches in the learning process, supported by varied teaching methods to avoid cognitive dominance. This holistic approach serves as a foundational framework for comprehensively developing the quality of learners in Islamic education.

Pendidikan Islam bertujuan untuk mengembangkan seluruh potensi kecerdasan peserta didik secara menyeluruh dan bertahap, sesuai dengan fase perkembangan mereka. Potensi tersebut mencakup kecerdasan intelektual (IQ), emosional (EQ), dan spiritual (SQ), yang ketiganya merupakan unsur penting dalam membentuk kepribadian manusia seutuhnya. Dalam perspektif Islam, potensi intelektual (ʿaql) berperan dalam memahami hukum alam dan realitas empiris, sedangkan qalb menampung fungsi zikir serta dimensi emosional dalam menghayati nilai-nilai spiritual. Ruh, sebagai daya spiritual yang berasal dari Allah, mengarahkan perkembangan jiwa dan raga manusia menuju kesempurnaan spiritual. Ketiga potensi ini bersumber dari fitrah manusia yang merupakan identitas esensialnya. Seiring dengan pertumbuhan usia dan interaksi sosial-kultural, potensi IQ, EQ, dan SQ berkembang secara dinamis. Oleh karena itu, tujuan pendidikan Islam tidak hanya membina aspek jasmani dan rohani, tetapi juga memelihara dan mengembangkan akal peserta didik. Untuk mencapai tujuan tersebut, diperlukan perpaduan pendekatan filosofis, saintifik, sosio-kultural, fungsional, dan emosional dalam proses pembelajaran, disertai penerapan metode yang bervariasi guna menghindari dominasi aspek kognitif semata. Pendekatan holistik ini menjadi dasar penting dalam mengembangkan kualitas peserta didik secara komprehensif dalam pendidikan Islam.
